Downton Abbey and Hatfields & McCoys both scored sweet 16 Primetime Emmy Nominations each!!

The 64th Primetime Emmy® Award nominations has just been announced today (this morning) and two of the most watched TV series/miniseries of 2012, Downton Abbey ( co-stars) and Hatfields & McCoys (Jena Malone co-stars) both scored big with sweet 16 nominations each!!!!!! In addition Homeland, the freshman series that Rupert Friend has just joined for Season 2 premiering this fall (September 30th) has scored 9 nominations!!

The PBS Masterpiece Classic period drama about an aristocratic family and their servants earned nominations for outstanding drama series and lead performers Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville. Additionally, Maggie Smith, Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle and Jim Carter received supporting performer nominations, giving DA nominees in all of the main acting categories. And Brian Percival and series creator Julian Fellowes earned nominations for directing and writing, respectively. Downton Abbey received 16 nominations in all. Next, History’s Hatfields & McCoys – which premiered to a highest cable rating record 14.2 million viewers (including 13 million+ for its first two episodes each nights, Episode 1 with 13.9 M and Episode 2 with 13.1 M, and Episode 3 with 14.2 million viewers!) in May – broke into the Emmys in a big way. The mini earned 16 nominations overall, including one for outstanding miniseries and lead actor noms for Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton. Plus Showtime’s freshman series Homeland earned 9 nominations (including lead actress in drama series for Claire Danes and lead actor for Damian Lewis), the most nominations of any freshman Drama or Comedy Series this year!

The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards show will be held on Sunday, September 23rd and will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on ABC!
